Thumbs down GLA 250 OBD socket

I have a UK GLA250 bought Feb. 2015.
I want to fit a Head-Up Display.
My local agent says the OBD socket is OBD I and all HUD's I can find need a OBD II socket !!!
Was my local agent correct?
If so why do Mercedes still fit this outdated socket ??
I'm very disappointed!

Many thanks for that answer.
If it looks like an OBD II socket it must be one !
From what I have seen on the Net OBD I sockets are circular, My GLA has an oblong one much like a SCART socket.

Who can give a definitive answer ???
